Tax Reform

 ​In our country, the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. As this gap widens, it is my responsibility as a Senator and as your future president to enforce policies to lessen this divide. By raising taxes on the rich, I will ensure a strong middle class and add billions of dollars into our economy. Currently, the upper class rarely pays enough in taxes while the lower and middle class struggles to pay more than their fair shares. Higher taxes on the rich are necessary to fund programs; when the government funds these programs, they pump new money back into the economy and stimulate economic growth.

• Increase Taxes on the Wealthy

  • ​A majority of people support Democratic proposals to raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans, according to a poll conducted this month for The New York Times

  • We must employ a progressive income tax to make sure that those who are making more are putting their fair share back into the government

• Stimulate Economic Growth

  • With more money being funneled into government programs, those who need the benefits of these programs will be better off financially and in general.

  • This stimulates the economy because people who, in the past, would not have money to put back into the economy are now able to do so. This supports the economy in many ways, including supporting local businesses and middle-class households.

• Simplify the Tax Code

  • We must make it easier for taxes to be done and understood by simplifying the tax code

  • We must shut down the corporate loopholes that currently exist and use that money in order to provide tax cuts for the middle class

  • This will help those who are struggling financially in the lower and middle class and put more money back into the economy through spending
